Marion M.A.T.T.E.R.S. will spearhead the fight to end addiction in our community with a three-prong approach.

EveryONE Matters.
Ending addiction in Marion County altogether might sound like an unrealistic endeavor. So why try? The answer is simple. We want to help as many people as we can. Marion M.A.T.T.E.R.S. might not be able to make a difference for everyone, but it can make a difference for someone, hopefully lots of someones.
If this initiative saves ONE life, connects one person with life-changing addiction treatment, discourages one person from engaging in risky substance use behavior, it will be a success.

Education – Understanding Substance Use Disorder
Marion M.A.T.T.E.R.S. believes that education is the key to inspiring and uniting our community.
Addiction is misunderstood. The American Society of Addiction Medicine defines addiction as “a treatable, chronic brain disease that involves complex interactions among brain circuits, genetics, the environment and an individual’s life experiences.” The term “substance use disorder” refers to the category of addiction related to the inability to control the use of legal or illegal drugs.
Marion M.A.T.T.E.R.S. will teach the public about the science and reality of substance use disorder, address misconceptions about addiction, and provide eye-opening statistics on substance use in Marion County. One of our main goals is to eliminate the harmful stigma surrounding addiction so people can feel comfortable reaching out for help.
By spreading this important information, we hope to spark discussions, promote understanding, prevent overdoses, encourage people to seek treatment, empower our youth, and build a more supportive environment in Marion County.
Let’s stop judging and start supporting each other because everyone in Marion matters.
